If you are like me and grew up eating halva out of the container then you will love this ice cream! This ice cream for me is nostalgic, it transports me back to my grandparents house sitting around the dining room table with my cousins fork in hand, digging into the container of halva with our grandfather, he loved halva both the traditional Albanian kind and this one.
This ice cream is rich and delicious, it is not like other ice creams, a small serving is enough. I like to serve this ice cream in Turkish coffee cups, it makes a nice presentation and it is a good amount of ice cream to satisfy you.
You will need an ice cream maker for this, make sure your bowl has been frozen for 24 hours.
What you will need:
- 1 and 1/2 cup whipping cream or heavy cream
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup tahini
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 pkt vanilla sugar*
Combine the cream, sugar, milk, and tahini, stir well and leave it in the fridge for 4 hours or over night.
Pour into prepared ice cream maker, and churn for 20-25 minutes. Transfer into a freezer safe container. Freeze for 2 hours before serving. Serve with grated chocolate and ground pistachios if desired.
Stays fresh in the freezer for 1 week.
*You may add a packet of vanilla sugar such as Dr. Oetker
