Traditionally manti is made with a home made dough, rolled out and cut into circles or squares. Its basically a Turkish style ravioli. This is just the easy way to make them, as you don’t have to make your own dough and roll and cut…but if your in the mood to make them from scratch I have got a treat for you! I recently made them and they are not too hard to make at all!
You can make them with wonton wraps or egg roll wraps….or you can go ahead and be adventurous and make homemade-manti!
What you will need:
- 1 400 g pkg wonton wraps or 1 lb egg roll wraps
- 3/4 lb lean ground beef
- 1 small onion
- 2 tbsp of tomato paste
- salt and pepper
Garnish
- 1-1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 grated cloves of garlic
- 2 tsp melted butter or olive oil (butter gives more flavour)
- 1 tsp paprika
- tomato sauce if desired
Cook ground beef break up the meat with spoon or masher, till crumbly. Finely chop onion, add the onion to the meat cook till tender, add tomato paste thats the filling. Season with salt and pepper. In a large pot, bring water to boil, you may salt it if you like.
Fill a small bowl with water, that is your ‘glue’ for sealing in the filling.
Take wontons fill with approx 1 tsp of filling wrap as you would a wonton. If using egg roll wraps cut into each roll into 4 squares, using the tip of your finger spread some water around edges and close up. Make sure not to leave any openings. If your using wontons you will want to use a fork to close in edges.
Boil manti, doesn’t take long they will come up to the surface of pot, takes about 1- 2 mins. Use slitted spoon to take out they are very delicate. Put in a serving bowl.
Have yogurt mixture ready. Spoon over the yogurt/garlic mixture over manti; drizzle the melted butter paprika over the yogurt.
*For the butter melt it in a small pot or microwave safe bowl, with paprika.
This is super yummy! My whole family loves it, and it's so easy to make using the wonton wraps. Served with a salad on the side.
