For those that are fasting the month of Ramadan, I wish you a blessed and healthy month! For us in Ontario, Canada we start our fast around 4 am and keep fast until about 9 pm right now. That means no food or drinking during that time. I like to start the day off with healthy suhurs, which is the meal before we start our fast.
My family usually likes smoothies or parfaits to be apart of that meal. I prepare them at night; it makes it a bit easier for me, not to mention saves time at 3 am.
Our favourite parfait is this one with mixed berries, but you can make them with any fruit you like. I like to use frozen berries, as it’s convenient and you can change up the mixture depending on which variety you get.
At times I use strawberry flavoured yogurt, and sometimes I just use plain Balkan style yogurt or my homemade yogurt mixed with honey or strawberry jam, but you can use whichever you prefer. Make sure to read the ingredients when buying yogurt; fruit flavoured yogurt or light or stirred yogurts can contain gelatin. Always read the labels!
We like the honey almond granola for this, but you can use whatever granola you prefer.
Don’t worry if you don’t have jars, I use plastic clear cups for this as well.
It is simple to put together, just layer the yogurt, granola and berries. Refrigerate until ready to serve; best not made too much in advance, otherwise the granola gets soft.
