When I was a kid I I used to go home for lunch, but on some days I would stay and on those days I would find a little treat in my bag, it usually was a strawberry flakie! I usually would pick Napoleon or Mille-feuille at the bakery, I love anything made with puff pastry, custard and cream.
You can make this with strawberries or raspberries, I use my homemade freezer jam but you can use store bought jam, or cook some berries down with sugar and cornstarch.
I usually make this dessert when I have leftover puff pastry, it’s so easy to put together and everyone in my family loves it.
What you will need:
- 1 thawed sheet of puff pastry
- cool whip or whipped cream
- strawberries or raspberries
- 3-4 tbsp strawberry jam or raspberry jam
- icing sugar
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Unroll the puff pastry and bake on a baking sheet with the parchment paper till puffy and golden. Takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes as every brand is different, some puff pastry is thicker and richer. Just check on it.
Allow the puff pastry to cool so whipped cream doesn’t melt. Once it’s cooled, spread some whipped cream or cool whip and top with jam and fruit of your choice. Top with the top part of the pastry and dust with icing sugar or make a glaze.
I LOVE flakies!!!!
