Every year my girls throw a party, and they pick a theme…each time its totally different. This year it was M&M’s and M&M colours, we picked orange as the main colour, its bright, fun and its one of my favourite colours;)
This is my third time making the ‘Barrel of Fun Cake’ I love making this cake! Its so easy to do, and well less stressful. I get stressed when decorating cakes….I can get irritated quickly when decorating…the crumbs in the icing, the decors breaking or drying out, anything can go wrong! With this cake its all covered up with candy and chocolate…and it looks great!
I make my cake from scratch, you can use boxed if you want.
What you will need:
- 2 9- inch round cakes ( I made vanilla)
- Vanilla frosting
- 11 packages of Kit Kat bars,
- M&Ms ( approx 2-3 cups)
- Ribbon or curling ribbon.
- Bake the cake; completely cool, ice with the frosting. Break the Kit Kats in 2, place along the cake.
- Tie around a ribbon and make a bow. Fill the top with M&M’s.
There you have it, a Barrel of Fun Cake:)
Another treat we made for the party were these pretzels, got the idea from Pinterest. I used Neilson Jersey Milk Chocolate and M&M’s on half of them, and on the other half Rolo’s and pecans.
I recommend placing a piece of parchment paper on the baking sheet, as mine got stuck! Lay the pretzels flat on the cookie sheet, top with chocolate squares and Rolo’s, bake at 275 for 3 minutes, remove from oven and top with pecan over the Rolo and M&M over the plain chocolate.
Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to firm up. Mmmm they are so good, especially the Rolo ones, tastes just like a Turtle!
What you will need:
You may need more or less, depending on how much your making, just wanted to give you a visual list.
- Pretzels
- 4 Rolls of Rolos
- 4 Neilson Jersey Milk Chocolate Bars ( or any plain chocolate)
- Aprrox 1/4 cup M&Ms
Another treat we made was Marshmallow Pops! They were a hit at last years party, so we made them again! We matched up the candy melts with the colours of M&Ms! I got a little of each colour at the Bulk Barn, and it turned out to be the perfect amount to cover the marshamallows.
You need an assistant for these, I had my friend help me. First off I don’t have a microwave, if you do you can melt the candy melts in a bowl following instructions for the candy.
I used a double broiler, it was a lot of work, had to wash out the bowl for every colour! I don’t think I will do that many colours again…too hectic! From changing the wax paper, because of the coloured sugar and melted candy…and working fast as candy melts harden quickly!
So to make these, take your marshmallow and insert a candy stick in the center. Then cover with melted candy, dip into coloured sugar or sprinkles, or broken up candy.
Place on a waxed paper lined sheet, rest till candy hardens.
What you will need:
- 1 bag large marshmallows
- Candy melts (colours of your choice)
- Candy Sticks
- Wax Paper
- Sprinkles or coloured sugar (got that from Bulk Barn as well)
This was the table setting at the party! I had a variety of snacks, including; carrot sticks, celery sticks, cheddar cheese, pickles, olives, chips, spinach burek, pizza and all the sweets you see here.
Oh and the punch, it was so yummy and simple to make!
What you will need:
- 2 liter club soda
- 4 cans of fruit punch
- Roses Grenadine
- Water to dilute
- Orange slices
Thaw frozen fruit punch, pour into punch bowl or large juice container like the one in the picture (what do you call that?). Pour in the club soda, and a few spoons ( I just pour over) the Rose’s Grenadine. Stir and add in some water till its not too sweet, and just right!
Add in the orange slices, I like to add other fruits in there as well in the summer, but orange is the best to use at all times.
Have extra ingredients on hand, I had to make it another batch…those girls were thirsty or they just really liked the punch;)
wow, very colorful & sweet party treats. This can be a double or actually tripple hit @ our house since kids luv chocolate & marshmallows. Thanx for the tips.
