My daughter Dina had a business project with a partner, her job was to come up with a edible playdough and her friend was in charge of marketing, they had to present it to the class as if they were on one of those shows like the Dragons Den or Shark Tank. The project was a succsess! I decided to write a post about it and share the recipe with you, as I had wished I knew of a homemade recipe when my kids were little. I really can’t stand the smell of store bought dough, and how it sticks to everything and always having to watch the kids making sure they weren’t going to eat it. With homemade dough, no worries about any of that!
So with the experimenting, we found that organic flour makes the softest dough, although it is more expensive I don’t really recommend using it. My daughter made one batch with organic, another with regular flour and half organic which was soft, but not as soft with just the organic, and the third batch with regular all purpose flour, it turned out firm compared to the others, you can tell from the picture, the yellow is not as smooth as the pink ball. We used juice crystals from the bulk store, you can use packaged ones if you want, I believe in the original recipe she asks for 1 pkg (6g) of juice crystals.
Children will love helping out, my kids are older and they were having fun with it, I didn’t even have to help my daughter make it, it was that easy! I think they would be great for gifts, you can make them in a variety of colours and pack them in small containers, I am sure kids of all ages would love it!
What you will need:
Adaptation from familycorner edible playdough recipe
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 cup juice crystals
- 3 tsp cream of tarter
- 1/2 cup salt
Mix all the dry ingredients in a saucepan. Add the water and slowly mix in along with the oil and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens to dough. Turn out onto a wood cutting board or counter top and knead until cool enough to handle, (we used a little cornstarch so that it wouldn’t stick to the board). Dough will be the color of the the juice crystals, and will smell like the flavour you used. Can be stored in a tight container for up to 6 months.
Thanks for sharing, I really needed it. I have been looking for recipes but didn’t know which one will work but now I know. The shapes look cool.
