For our anniversary I surprised my hubby with homemade manti. I have always made them with wonton wraps as I was terribly intimated by making them from scratch…wonton wraps are just easier and take less time. After making the dough, it’s not as bad as I thought! Sure it’s extra effort but well worth it, I will be making manti like this from now on!
Manti is Turkish-style ravioli, served with garlic sauce and optional tomato sauce, my youngest only likes the yogurt on top!
You can add the filling raw if you like, and it will cook while boiling. We prefer the texture and taste of it cooked.

- 3/4 lb beef
- 1 onion
- 2-3 tsp tomato paste
- 2-3 tsp red pepper paste
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the dough:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 egg
- Warm water
In a large bowl, combine flour and egg and pour in water a little at a time until the flour forms a dough, I would say about 1/2 cup of water or so. Dough should be soft. Drizzle with some olive oil and cover with plastic wrap, let rest for 1/2 hour.
Flour your counter top very well as you do not want the dough sticking to the counter top. Roll out the dough, making sure flour is on the bottom.
Cut into squares with a pizza cutter, should make over 70 squares.
- 2 cups plain yogurt
- 1 large garlic clove
- Salt to season
- 2 cups plain tomato sauce ( I used my homemade-tomato sauce )
- 2 tsp salted butter
- 1 tsp paprika
Bring a large pot of water to boil, add a little salt. Make filling, set aside. Make dough and roll out and cut into squares. Fill each square with a little meat filling. Fold up each corner and squeeze ends to form manti, place on a floured tray till all are done folding.
Drop 10-15 manti at a time boil till they come up to the surface. Scoop out with a pasta spoon with little holes so that it drains.
Spoon some tomato sauce on the plates, then add some manti on top, spoon over some garlic sauce and drizzle with paprika melted butter. Enjoy:)
