I was making my confetti waffles one morning, and my son wanted something salty to eat. I offered him a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato, a favourite of ours. I got the idea to try making it in the waffle maker since it was on. I used to have a sandwich maker, so I thought how different could it be really, well except for the fact this would look like a waffle.
That is exactly what happened, it looks like a waffle! The cheddar cheese melted so much better than when making it in a pan.
You can use cheddar cheese, the only cheese my kids will eat with grilled cheese, the slices are for my mom as she likes her ‘fake’ cheese as my kids call it. I like either, when I am being rebellious I use the slices as well, hey I grew up with the stuff!
What you will need:
- sandwich bread
cheddar cheese or slices
tomatoes if desired
butter
Preheat waffle maker. Slice cheddar cheese as much as needed. Slice tomatoes if using. Butter one side of each slice of bread. I add some mayo to the inside of one side of the bread if I am adding tomato, you may or may not add it.
If I am just making cheese, I only add cheese no mayo or tomatoes.
On your cutting board, prepare bread with cheese as in the photos.
Add sandwich to waffle maker.
Press down tightly.
I have it on the 4 and 1/2 dial. When it turns green, its done. Enjoy!
