The time has come, it just happened so fast! I know you would think we as parents had all this time to prepare for this moment, but in actuality it hit us hard, as if time just passed and we don’t know how it happened!
I would like to share with you a little note I wrote for my sons grade 8 grad, I added to it as he now graduates from grade 12.
I called it Stop Watch,
Wishing right about now that I had a stop watch so I can stop time! Time how it does fly…like a blink of an eye…where does it go and how does it go by? I have been thinking this thought all night long!
With the blink of an eye did my little boy go to kindergarten…and become a little man graduating gr 8 (now 12)! I remember the very day I sent him to the first day of school…he was so scared he was crying and said ‘mommy take me home I’m scared’ as I was trying to hold back my tears as the kindergarten teacher noticed that and asked me to leave, so that it would be easier for him….and for me.
The one memory that sticks to my mind is how gr 1 went by so fast and how sad I was…..I even cried. (I still remember that moment)
Then gr 2,3,4,5,6,7 just went by so quickly, 9,10,11 and 12 even faster!
Gr 8 just flew by like the wind (so did gr 12)…where did it go…and how fast it ended I don’t know. As my little boy was so excited yesterday wearing his new suit ,tie and shoes…walking into the school that he attended for most of his life…happy that he achieved his goal (for the moment) graduating gr 8. It was a bitter sweet moment…as excited as he was…afterwards when the party and festivities were done… it hit him!
He said ‘mom I’m scared I don’t want to leave my grade school, I didn’t even get the chance to kiss the walls’ oh man how those words hit me like a ton of bricks!
My little man is still part little boy….and as he goes through the transition of going to high school and leaving the fun good old days of grade school…I hope he sets his goals high so that he can fly!
Now that he is leaving High School and will be going through new transitions, I hope for him and his friends and all the young people who are graduating this year a life filled with success and happiness. God Bless.
So now lets get to the fun part! He didn’t want a party, so I tried to make it as low key as possible, we had our best friends come over, her kids and mine are close to the same ages, her son and my sons birthdays are 4 days apart and they are both graduating at the same time, he had some friends from school over, we could have invited more, but he doesn’t like crowds, gee I wonder where he got that from, hehe.
Over the years, I have collected toys and cake toppers so that I can make his grade 12 grad cake with them, I had planned on a fondant covered cake, but it was such a hectic day that I just made it with icing. I had initially planned to make it a three tiered cake, but instead used the extra batter for cupcakes, which were a hit!
So here is the cake—>
Congratulations to the class of 2014!
For the burgers, I used bread crumbs, 1 egg, milk, dry oregano, seasoning salt, herb salt, garlic salt, Montreal steak spice, combine the bread crumbs with milk, crumbs will absorb the milk, mix with ground beef and seasonings, grill on barbecue. I topped them with jalapeno havarti cheese, they were a hit!
Recipe for grilled-veggies, but this time around I didn’t make a dressing, just added olive oil and salt. For the baby potatoes, I boiled them in salted water, then drained them when they just about cooked, then grilled them to perfection, drizzled some olive oil and sprinkled some salt over them.
I grilled a Spanish onion and a large red onion, they were used as a burger topper and as a side, so good.
For the chicken kabobs, you can try this recipe from Sawsan from Chef in Disguise shish-tawook, or you can make them with these ingredients paprika, seasoning salt, dried oregano, herb seasoned salt, salt, vinegar and olive oil, marinate for at least 4 hours.
