If you follow me on Facebook you may recall a status a few weeks ago. I mentioned my son asking me to make Rice Krispie squares for his class project. One of the comments from Cyndi mentioned to make S’mores Krispies with Golden Grahams; thank you Cyndi! Thing is, I haven’t seen that cereal in a long time! It was my hubby’s favourite childhood cereal, but for some reason I thought we didn’t have any in Canada!
Well, I was wrong…I was in the cereal aisle where low and behold there it was! A family size box of Golden Grahams! Of course I got it along with the marshmallows and Rice Krispies. I was ready for some bake sale baking….well, I really didn’t have to bake anything 😉
My son was informed, though, that the principal was strict about sugar content as in Ontario now there are so many new guidelines about what can be served in schools, but really it’s a bake sale for his business class! He did well; his team made $90 bucks! It was no where near the other teams who were a bit more creative….I bet these would have got them much more mula! Oh well, we enjoyed them, especially hubby!
I made 2 batches of Rice Krispie Squares. I did make a few batches earlier on just for practice as its been a while. I like adding a handful of chocolate chips near the end, mmm so good. I did try adding less butter at one time, but it was too dry. Note to self: use the amount of butter asked in recipe no matter what. 😉
Okay, so my husband got a box of cereal in the States, the one on the right is American and the one to the left is Canadian. I just had to share this picture as the cartoon characters are different! I prefer the Canadian as it’s closer to the ones I grew up with. 🙂 The cereal itself tastes the same for the most part. We found the American Krispies a bit more dry…maybe that’s just us!
Okay, let’s get to the recipe shall we!
What you will need:
- 6 cups Golden Graham Cereal
- 250 gr bag of Marshmallows
- 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter
- 3 Tablespoons of Chocolate Chips
- 1/2 -3/4 cup of Mini or cut up Marshmallows
- 1 cup Golden Graham Cereal(for top layer)
Melt butter on low heat, add in marshmallows. Heat on low heat until marshmallows are melted and fluffy.
Add in the Golden Graham cereal, and combine well. Then add the chocolate chips and marshmallows. Transfer to buttered 13×9 inch pan. Spread the 1 cup of cereal on top of squares and lightly press down. Refrigerate for 1 hour and cut into squares. Enjoy!
I think it will b a big hit @ our house, kids love marshmallow & chocolate. Once I made marshmallow rice krispies, it turned out pretty good. I found a recipe on the internet. I will make these pretty soon.
