I love Chicken Shawarma sandwiches, but if your buying them for a family it can get expensive! My son will get a sandwich once and a while at his favourite Shawarma shop in town. Making it home isn’t quite the same, but its still good!
When you go to a shawarma place, you notice the meat being sliced off like Doner kebab or Gyros meat. You can get beef, lamb or chicken. I love all three, but prefer the chicken. Some places will add french fries in the sandwich while others don’t.
When I was a kid I had a friend who was Lebanese and her mom always added fries in her sandwiches…so I do the same.
Excuse my fries, they are homemade…I am a terrible slicer/cutter!;)
You can grill your chicken breast, pan fry or bake…prepare any way, season in any way you prefer! Make it spicy or mild!
My kids don’t like tomatoes in their sandwiches, you can add whats on this list or not…its your sandwich make it your way!
What you will need:
- 4 skinless boneless chicken breast
- pita bread
- pickled turnips
- pickles
- tomatoes
- lettuce
- onion
- lettuce
- 2 tbsp plain yogurt
- 1 tbsp mayo
- 1-2 cloves of garlic
- fries for side and sandwich
Bake or fry your french fries.
Season your chicken breast with salt and pepper and add any seasoning you like, grill, pan fry or bake. I like to marinate it with lemon juice, olive oil and organic Herbamare seasoning and salt.
While chicken is cooking prepare the toppings.
Slice and chop tomatoes, pickles, turnips, onion, lettuce.
Grate garlic and combine with mayo, yogurt and garlic, season with salt.
Spread a spoonful of garlic sauce (yogurt/mayo) on a piece of pita. Cut the chicken into strips and add some chicken and top with desired toppings, roll and enjoy!
oh this looks DELISH!!!!!!!
