What a perfect day for a lovely BBQ dinner with family and friends! The theme cheeseburgers! From dinner to dessert it was all about the beloved summer favourite!
The kids loved the cake, the adults loved it too! It is such a fun cake, not too hard to make either, using ready fondant really makes it easy! Will be sharing some pictures from the BBQ and some recipes as well:)
- 2 -9 inch round vanilla cake, one thicker for top and thinner for bottom
- 1- 9 inch round brownie
- 12 oz Wilton fondant (box comes in 24 oz pkg, you will need half or a bit more depending how many or how big your toppings are)
- Wilton gel colours ; leaf green, golden yellow, orange, brown, tasteless red, black
- icing
- circle shapes
- wax paper
- cornstarch
- rice krispies
Bake and cool cakes and brownie. When cool, ice cakes. Divide fondant, for the bun you will need brown and a little bit of orange. For the cheese you will need golden yellow and a small touch of orange. For the pickles you need a touch of black and leaf green. For tomatoes you need tasteless red. For the lettuce you need leaf green. Wilton gels are highly concentrated, you just dip with a toothpick and mix into fondant as you go, if your familiar with Wilton gels you know what I mean.
Lay a sheet of wax paper and sprinkle a little bit of cornstarch to prevent sticking. Roll dough and shape the ‘cheese’ into a large square then cut into small squares. Roll out ‘lettuce’ till its long enough to fit around the brownie.
Shape the onions, tomatoes and pickles with circle shape cutters.
Cover the cakes with fondant, then add the brownie on top of bottom bun, top with toppings, then add top bun over, sprinkle some rice kripsies and there you have a cheeseburger cake! If you need more info or if you have any questions about the cake please ask, as I mention in other baking posts I am really bad at giving directions for cakes!;)
