Burek can be made two ways, one way is with home made dough and the other with store bought filo. For this particular burek, filo works best. This was the first burek recipe I learned how to make when I was a kid, one of my favs!
If you have a larger container of cottage cheese or ricotta, you may use it. If I have more I use it, it just makes more filling, and who doesn’t like more cheese!
What you will need:
- 1 container 500 ml cottage cheese or ricotta
- 3/4 cup of crumbled feta cheese
- 2 tbsp of yogurt
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 -1 tsp salt
- filo dough thawed
- 1/4 cup butter melted
- 1/4 cup olive oil
Combine cheeses and eggs season with salt. Combine melted butter and olive oil.
Grease large baking pan, lay two sheets of filo and brush oil/butter keep layering, and brushing with oil/butter every two layers till half of package is done. Fill with cheese filling and spread evenly, continue with layering filo and butter. Brush the top layer and bake 350 till golden brown. When you take out of oven cover for a few minutes, then cut and place on serving dish. Enjoy!
