It’s the perfect time for chili as the weather is getting chilly here in Ontario! Chili was one of my favourite meals as a kid, and for many years I have tried to perfect my recipe – and I finally got it! My children were complementing me on the dish, stating that it was better than the regular chili that I make. I guess you can say this recipe is a winner! …

Grandma’s Albanian Cabbage Stew – Mish me Lakra
This is my grandmother’s recipe for mish me lakra, which translates to meat with cabbage. I don’t like big pieces of meat in my stew so I make it with bite size pieces of tender stew meat. You can use beef or lamb, whichever you prefer. We are not big meat eaters, so I don’t add a lot; you may use 1 lb of meat, more or less, though I use less. You can also make this meatless if you wish.
Growing up, this was one of the dishes my grandmother made that I really enjoyed. I am happy to share this with you today!…
Chicken and Rice
This is my mom’s go-to meal. Growing up, this was what she made on her days off. In Albanian, it is called pul me oriz, which translates to chicken and rice. This is my twist to her original recipe which I find to be a little bland, sorry mom. She boils the chicken and doesn’t use all the seasonings I use; she doesn’t add mushrooms or peppers either. …
Salmon en Croute
My kids and I enjoy watching Masterchef Kids, and in one of the episodes the kids made salmon en croute. I never heard of it, so this was a challenge for me, and I am always up for a challenge! My kids cheered me on, mostly because they really wanted to try it. My mom told me to take pictures of it, you know just in case it turned out good, well it did… I am glad I listened to my mama! …
Bok Choy with Whole Wheat Pasta
This has become one of my favourite dishes, its full of flavour and is easy to make. You can add a little more oil if you find it dry, I cannot have a lot so I use very little when cooking. …
Grade 12 Grad Get Together with Childhood Friends
The time has come, it just happened so fast! I know you would think we as parents had all this time to prepare for this moment, but in actuality it hit us hard, as if time just passed and we don’t know how it happened! …
Barbecue Chicken Kabobs
I love my barbecue chicken, and I make it the same way mama always did, I even use the same BBQ sauce! I didn’t have much chicken on hand, and when that happens I turn the meat or chicken in this case into kabobs!…
Scrambled Egg Whites with Dandelion and Mushrooms
Since I am on a low fat diet (for now) hopefully in time be able to eat a little bit more than I am now, but in the meantime I am learning how to cook low fat and healthy, and I kinda like it. Its not even about the fat, there are so many things that are on the list of yes and no food items, once I am able to include tomatoes, peppers and a little cheese in my diet, I will be much more happier and creative! …
Ditalini Pasta and Meatballs
Ditalini pasta and meatballs is such a tasty and easy meal to make, using one pot! I used to make this for my kids when they were younger, I didn’t always make meatballs, I would just crumble the ground beef up…either way it’s really delicious! I don’t really measure when I made dishes like this, I just eye it, in the recipe below I basically write up how to make it and what is needed, you may need more of the ingredients if you are making a lot. …
Turlu
My first post of the new year! Turlu is basically the Balkan version of Ratatouille. I have other versions of turlu posted on the blog, they are all different recipes, this one is vegetarian and is such a delicious and comforting dish…especially in this cold frigid weather! …
